IMPROVING EDUCATION |

I have worked
hard to ensure equity funding and resources for DeSoto County schools.
DeSoto County had 28,000 students enrolled in classrooms in 2006-2007,
making it the second largest school district in Mississippi. Enrollment
this year increased by over 1,700 students. |
DeSoto County is by
far the fastest growing school district in Mississippi. I helped
champion fully funding high-growth school districts. DeSoto County Schools will
receive over $122 million dollars this year, which is a 77% increase from 2003.
Mississippi has had a great fleet of veteran teachers, and I will
continue to work to create incentives to keep these good teachers.
I also believe we need to continue to honor the commitment to pay
our teachers competitive salaries. I was proud to vote for consecutive 8% pay raises in 2004 and 2005, and a 3% pay raise this year.
I believe every child in Mississippi has a right to a quality education,
and we need to make education our number one priority each and every
year. A Champion for public education, I voted to fully fund the Mississippi Adequate Education Program (MAEP), multiple teacher pay raises, and fully funding of high-growth school districts.

LOWERING TAXES |

I believe that
state government is no different than a family or small business
when developing a budget--you simply do not spend more than you
earn. I support realistic revenue projections to produce a balanced
budget. |
I have worked to trim unnecessary and wasteful spending
of taxpayer dollars. Budgeting is about setting priorities and living
within our means.

BETTER JOBS |

 |
DeSoto County
currently has a solid business climate, but I will work to make
it even better. DeSoto County saw the creation of 7,158 new jobs
and a capital investment of over $1.2 billion in the past 10 years.
Retail sales for DeSoto County in 2005 continued to increase at
staggering rates as they rose to over $2.1 billion. |
Mississippi needs leadership
and vision to foster economic growth across the state in an effort
to provide good jobs for our people.

PRESERVING FAMILY
VALUES |

As a husband
and father of three, I believe that the family unit is the foundation
of basic human society. I believe we should bring up our children
in an environment that teaches respect, character, integrity, hard
work, personal responsibility, and Christian values. I will make
decisions in the legislature based on these basic beliefs. |

I believe the
second amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees individuals
the right to keep and bear arms for any legal purpose. I oppose
additional limitation on the number of guns one can own, or the
time one must wait before purchasing a gun. |
As a proud member of
the NRA, I will work to protect the freedom of gun ownership. I
co-authored the "Castle Doctrine" in 2006. This legislation
allows you to use deadly force in your home, car, or place of business
if you feel your life is being threatened.

PROTECTING HUMAN
LIFE |

I am pro-life.
I will oppose any provision of state funds to groups
that provide abortion services, even if they do not
use state funds directly for abortions. I oppose
any efforts to allow human cloning and oppose state
funding for research purposes that requires the killing
of human embryos. |
I support the passage of a human
life state constitutional amendment. I will work
hard to improve the opportunities for adoption.
